Board Members

There are seven members of the Board of Pharmacy, appointed by the governor for three-year terms. These appointments are subject to reappointment, for a total of nine years. The Board is comprised of five pharmacist members and two public members. The Board is responsible for regulating the practice of pharmacy and the legal distribution and dispensing of prescription drugs and precursor substances throughout Iowa.  The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, licensing, renewal, and discipline of pharmacists, pharmacies, drug wholesalers, pharmacist-interns, pharmacy technicians, and persons or businesses involved in the distribution of controlled substances in Iowa, and continuing education for pharmacists.

James Miller, Chair

James Miller was appointed by Governor Branstad and began his service on May 1, 2011.  He was re-appointed in 2014 by Governor Branstad to his second term ends that runs through April 30, 2017.  He is a licensed pharmacist from Dubuque.

Sharon Meyer, Vice Chair

Sharon Meyer was appointed by Governor Branstad and began her service on May 1, 2013.  She was re-appointed in 2016 by Governor Branstad to her second term that runs through April 30, 2019.  She is a licensed pharmacist from Urbandale.

Edward Maier

Edward Maier was appointed by Governor Culver and began his service on May 1, 2008.  He was re-appointed in 2011 and 2014 by Governor Branstad, and his term ends on April 30, 2017.  He is a licensed pharmacist from Mapleton.

LaDonna Gratias

LaDonna Gratias was appointed by Governor Branstad and began her service on May 1, 2011.  She was re-appointed by Governor Branstad in 2014 to her second term that runs through April 30, 2017.  She is home builder from Clive.

Edward McKenna

Edward McKenna was appointed by Governor Branstad and began his service on May 1, 2012.  He was re-appointed by Governor Branstad in 2015 to his second term that runs through April 30, 2018.  He is a licensed pharmacist from Storm Lake.

Jason Hansel

Jason Hansel was appointed by Governor Branstad and began serving on the Board on May 1, 2015.  His current term ends on April 30, 2018.  He is a licensed pharmacist from Bettendorf.
