Fraudulent Promethazine with Codeine Prescriptions

Date:

The DEA has received multiple reports of fraudulent promethazine w/codeine prescriptions.  Often they are called in using a real patient name/DOB and a “family member” comes to the pharmacy to pick it up. A suspect was arrested in a pharmacy for trying to pick up a prescription that was called in under a local physician’s name and DEA number.  The prescription also had amoxicillin on it. Eastern Iowa pharmacies have been targeted more with the promethazine Rxs. In certain parts of the country a stock bottle of promethazine will sell for $900.00.
