As of July 1, 2023, licensing and other health and occupational licenses will become part of the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing (DIAL) as a new organizational structure for state government goes into effect. Government departments and agencies that provide related services or have similar business functions are aligning to better serve Iowans.

Rulemaking Published


Rulemaking action by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy has been published in the Iowa Administrative Bulletin as follows: 


ARC 6953C has been adopted and amends Chapter 3, “Pharmacy Technicians,” Chapter 6, “General Pharmacy Practice,” Chapter 8, “Universal Practice Standards,” Chapter 18, “Centralized Prescription Filling and Processing,” Chapter 21, “Electronic Data and Automated Systems in Pharmacy Practice,” and Chapter 39, “Expanded Practice Standards.”

  • The amendments implement Code changes from the 2022 General Assembly found in House Files 771, 2573 and 2169 relating to licensed nurses engaging in the practice of nursing pursuant to a pharmacist’s order and the issuance of a prescription in the name of a school district to obtain a bronchodilator, a bronchodilator and spacer or an opioid antagonist.
  • No changes were made to the rulemaking following the public comment period.

The amendments will be effective April 26, 2023.
